Privacy Policy

Short version: Dev to Hero stores all data locally in your browser. We collect nothing. We send nothing. Your data never leaves your machine.

1. What is Dev to Hero?

Dev to Hero is a free Chrome browser extension that color-codes documentation pages (MDN Web Docs, W3Schools, javascript.info, DevDocs) by difficulty level to help developers learn more efficiently.

2. Data we collect

We collect absolutely no personal data. Dev to Hero does not:

Collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information
Track your browsing history or behavior
Send any data to external servers
Use analytics or tracking tools
Display advertisements
Require an account or login

3. Local storage only

Dev to Hero uses Chrome's local storage API (chrome.storage.local) to save your preferences and learning progress on your own device. This includes:

Your ON/OFF toggle preference
Focus mode setting
Prerequisites you have marked as mastered
Sections you have marked as read
Badge corrections you have voted on

This data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted anywhere. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension or clearing Chrome's extension storage.

4. Network requests

Dev to Hero makes zero network requests. The extension runs entirely offline using only the code bundled with it. No external APIs, no telemetry, no analytics endpoints.

5. Permissions

The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:

storage — to save your preferences locally on your device
tabs — to read the current tab's URL so the popup can display the correct stats for the active page
Host permissions for developer.mozilla.org, w3schools.com, javascript.info, and devdocs.io — to inject the difficulty badges on those documentation pages only

None of these permissions are used to collect, store, or transmit any personal information.

6. Children's privacy

Dev to Hero does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The extension contains no mechanism to collect any personal data from anyone.

7. Changes to this policy

If we ever update this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Given that we collect no data, we do not anticipate meaningful changes to this policy.
